How To Get Whatever You Want is part one of a two part series on how to get whatever you want, whether it be resolving psychological challenges such as to stop smoking or lose weight, or get over fear of public speaking. It is not about how to resolve some problem in the physical world, such as getting a huge bank account. Although resolutions of problems in the physical world may be a pleasant side effect of this work.
The first step in getting whatever you want is to identify within yourself, who would you have to be in order to have whatever you want. For example, suppose you want a romantic relationship. Who would you be in order to attract into your life all the romantic relationships you could handle? Would you be very happy, very loving towards others and yourself?
Suppose you want abundant wealth? Would you be successful, altruistic, giving?
The next step is to BE THAT now! States of being do not depend on doing or having anything. You can be that now. You must be that not only intellectually, but emotionally, as well. Deeply feel your new state of being. I call this state of being, your True Self. You need be feeling really jazzed being the kind of person who is getting whatever they really want.
Most people think that in order to be a certain way (happy) they need to do certain things in order to have certain things (lots of money, romantic relationship, etc) to be whatever they want. This is the Do Have Be way and it does NOT work!! It is important to understand this. The reality is that it works the other way around. Be Do Have is the way to go. So, we start with Being. What kind of person do you have to be in order to get whatever you want.
At this point, you are going to run into a seeming disconnect. On the one hand, you are going to be feeling your new True Self and on the other hand the physical reality around you may not be reflecting back your True Self. For instance, you may be identifying with and feeling abundantly successful, BUT, still have a bank account with only a few dollars. This is called FEAR.
FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real. In other words, the bank account with only a few dollars is false evidence that seems to contradict your TRUE SELF state of being abundantly successful. The bank account only seems to contradict because it appears real. Having no romantic relationships seems to contradict identifying with being a happy loving person.
Remember, states of being can be changed in the twinkling of an eye. But their manifestation in the physical world most often takes time. Although, not always.
So, the question now becomes, how do you hold space for the seeming disconnect between your True Self and actual physical reality and work on having manifest physical reality reflect your True Self?
I want to ask, now, what is the difference between a person who is self fulfilling his prophecy and a person who is self delusional? The self deluded person never engages with physical reality as his True Self, sitting on his couch eating bon bons while dreaming what it would be like to be abundantly successful, for example. On the other hand, the person who identifies with being abundantly successful, acts that way and interacts with the world in that way.
Now, Tony Robbins says to take massive action towards creating your goal. I could not disagree more. Taking this approach shuts you off from an infinite number of possibilities including the possibility that the goal is no longer important.
Instead, from a place of being in your True Self, ask yourself if getting that thing that you want is something that still appeals to you. It may not!! It is not uncommon for a client who wants, for example to lose weight will discover that her True Self is one of self love. And after becoming established in a place of self love, she decides that losing the excess weight is no longer important.
So, now we come to a very important part of the process. If you decide that you still want whatever you want, then from a state of being established in your True Self, ask yourself, what is the next smallest step you can take in the direction of getting whatever you want. And take that action. It has to be the next smallest step and it has to be in the general direction of your goal. Doing it this ways allows for the universe to maybe serve you something even better than you imagine.
Once you’ve taken that small step, and the results have settled in, again check in with yourself and see if you still want whatever you want. And if the answer is yes, then ask, what is the next smallest step to take in the direction of the goal and do that.
Keep repeating this pattern until physical reality turns around and reflects your True Self and you get whatever you want. Read Part 2 of this essay, entitled How To Get Whatever You Want Hypnotherapy, where I outline how hypnotherapy can be used to do the steps of this process.
