This article is the first in a series of how to use the hypnotic pendulum for change. The hypnotic pendulum is a way for you to be able to talk to your unconscious mind and ask questions. It can be very useful for those times when you want to make a personal change and you are doing all the right things like visualizations and affirmations and self suggestions and yet your unconscious mind does not seem to be going along with the program.

The hypnotic pendulum pictured here is the one I personally use. As you can see it is just a clear plastic ball (about an inch in diameter) with a small chain attached. I bought it years ago at a new age store for a few dollars.
You can make one if you want. Just get a piece of string (about 12 inches long) and something with a little weight to tie on to one end of the string. A nut from a nut and bolt makes a perfect weight. It has to have enough weight so that the string is stretched straight when you hold the opposite end of the string.
The picture here also depicts the proper way to hold the hypnotic pendulum; just hold the string between the thumb and 1st finger. When I use mine, I like to be seated at a table, hold the hypnotic pendulum with my dominate hand, and rest my elbow of my dominate hand on the table. Hold the weight about an inch from the table.
To teach yourself how to work with it, hold the hypnotic pendulum and make sure it does not move. Then consciously swing it forward and backward for a minute or so. Bring it to rest and then swing it side to side for a bit. Get use to the motion in your arm.
Now, with the hypnotic pendulum at rest, say to yourself, “unconscious mind, please give me a yes signal”. Think yes, yes, yes. Do not consciously move the hypnotic pendulum. Eventually your unconscious mind will swing it in a certain direction. Then bring it to rest and say to yourself, “unconscious mind, give me a no signal” and think no, no, no. Again, do not consciously move the hypnotic pendulum. Again, eventually your unconscious mind will swing it in a certain direction. Begin each new session with these two requests to your unconscious mind. Notice the slight difference in requests to yourself. This difference is important.
Next, test the hypnotic pendulum. Ask yourself some yes no questions that you know the answer to already. And see if it gives you the right answer. It is important that when asking a question do not consciously move the hypnotic pendulum. In order to ensure that I do not consciously move it, I typically look up at a picture on the wall, or hum a song to myself while awaiting an answer to my question. This part about testing the hypnotic pendulum is something you only have to do once, while getting use to working with the hypnotic pendulum.
So, that is about enough for one post. So I will stop here. If you have any questions about using the hypnotic pendulum, please go to Contact Me and send me a question. The next post in this series I will answer your questions and write about how to ask questions of your hypnotic pendulum. There is an art to asking the right questions in order to affect personal change.
